A Q&A With The President/CEO
Upon receiving notice of this great honor, Jason Ashton; President/CEO of CallPass, sat down with the Tampa Bay Business Journal and answered a series of questions regarding the companies success over the past year and outlook for the future.
- How would you describe what your company does to a friend or family member who may not know? * CallPass provides advanced mobile asset tracking services supported by our Cloud Based applications and platforms and powered by a multitude of GPS Devices, Sensors, and other IoT-connected products.
- What was the most exciting thing to happen at or to your company last year? * The most exciting thing to happen to us in 2019 was fulfilling a 50k Unit trailer tracking solution to one of the largest commercial freight carriers in the world. It was amazing to see almost 4yrs of negotiations, partnerships, strategy sessions, platform development, and ultimately roll outcome to fruition. It really set the table early on in 2019 and continues to propel the company now with the can-do/will do spirit.
- As one of the fastest-growing companies in the area, what’s the secret to your growth? Or in other words, how did you do it? There’s no secret, our team is responsible for our growth. We have been fortunate to be in a position to hire people in a variety of roles. Filling those roles with passionate people who want to work in a team environment is what has allowed us continued growth and success.
- What is your #1 priority for the year ahead? How has COVID-19 impacted that? * Our #1 priority is to expand in two key areas of our business, first is scaling our cloud platforms to support the influx of customers and connected devices, second was expanding our team to facilitate our partner growth allowing us to scale not only platforms but relationships as well. We were fortunate to only have a mild disruption due to Co-Vid, we were slightly ahead of the quarantine measures so we had 100% of our staff working from home ahead of the Pandemic announcement and measures. While we had a slight downturn in business in April we rebounded strongly in May and beyond due to having our employees working safely from home.
- How has COVID-19 changed your business? It has reemphasized the importance of our team and employees’ wellbeing. We go as our employees go and providing them a work environment that they not only feel safe in but also empowered and challenged daily. Covid reminded everyone that challenges will always occur, having a strong team foundation and strategic processes allow you to adapt and overcome as necessary.
- What are some of the growing pains you have experienced? Hiring is always a challenge and while we continue to grow we can’t always fill positions as fast as we would like. Additionally outgrowing manual processes and back-office systems, the need to migrate to robust accounting, inventory, and ERP systems was definitely a growing pain through 2019 into 2020.
- Are you currently hiring? If so, how many positions and what types? Yes, we are hiring both Inside and Outside Sales positions, Software Development, Hardware Engineering positions, IT Service Professionals, and Customer Support Reps.
